Earl “The Pearl” Strickland faces “The Rocket” Roger Griffis at the 1995 Sands Regency Open XXI in Reno, Nevada. Strickland, 34 at the time, had already won just about every title the sport has to offer. He was the 1990’s Player of the Decade and had won the US Open 9-Ball Championship three times (so far).Griffis was a dangerous opponent, having already beaten Strickland in one televised final match, a feat that was almost unheard of during Strickland’s heyday.
