A slightly different kind of snooker push foul, referee (Marcel Eckhardt) oblivious

In snooker, push shots and double contacts are not allowed. This particular double contact was performed by Ali Carter happened in a recent Grand Prix match. How we know a push shot has occurred here: There is less than an inch between cue-ball and object ball so the player can only push his cue through the white only around half an inch. If he did that, very little power could be imparted to the balls and they would hardly move. But they moved quite a bit so.. definite push (all that extra power coming from the pushed cue).Usually in a push situation, when backspin has been applied to the cue ball, the tell-tale sign that a push has occurred will be the white will either stop or jump because it spun back and hit the cue. But not in this example because he played it at an angle so the white spun back, missed the cue and travelled on. So the only clue is the amount of power the player managed to put into the balls considering they were so close The referee should have spotted this but unfortunately they have not been trained properly on push shots so ultimately it cannot be his fault. The offending player went on to lose this match so he gained nothing from the infraction. He is normally a very honest player and a very good ambassador for the sport. This video is for educational purposes only.
